Saw the Mad Caddies last night and now I am all amped up and listening to them again, and drawing stereos all over the place. Nothing better than some punk rock to get your art going.
Happy Sunday
I love cabbie hats. They get a bad rap because too many people think they are beatnicks and wear them backwards and try to wax poetic on you. But in the truest form of old man wearing a hat, I love cabbie hats.
So I was planning on taking a nap before I went to see a movie tonight, but I couldn’t fall asleep so I read a couple comics and then I started to doodle. God I love Batman. Anyway I’ve started(at least in my head) a series of people waiting for PT. Public transit that is, and I think it is going to be really cool. I actually haven’t really done paintings of people in a good ten months so it feels new and exciting. I will post some of the new stuff as it goes up. I think there is also going to be an entire show of men shaving…..
We’ll see.
So I was listening to Sonic Youth tonight and finally started to get my groove back after those last two shows. Shows can really kill your creative spark for a little while afterward. I guess everybody needs a vacation, but tonight I was going off on these little birds in the pipes. This is part of a much larger sketch but I didn’t feel like scanning something in in parts tonight. Maybe sometime later.
I love this piece. I hope everyone out there does too. This was the first piece that I thought of carving so much negative space into, so it was kind of a landmark for me as well. If you like this one, I am also working on one titled “No one not even the rain has such delicate hands”, with similar subject matter which will be up in a couple weeks, either on the revamped site or on the blog. That title is based on an EE Cummings poem.
Yesterday my lady friend and I drove to Astoria and picked up a bunch of my paintings from the Lunar Boy Gallery. I still have a wall up in the back if anyone is interested, but either way I thought that I would show people a couple of the pieces a few at a time on the blog. So here is the second piece.
It’s Called “The Patch Job”
This is kind of a sandwichboard from the future. I think that I am going to use it for a promo in the near future. Let me know if you want a postcard with this image on it.
This machine started as a machine carrying around stereo equipment but eventually I decided that it should be a cloud constructor.
here’s another sketch more along the lines of the cloud constructor pieces. It’s actually for a final painting which is going to be pretty much huge. As can be seen mountains are being added to natural construction projects.
