This weekend was the best. I spent so much time at studio and actually got a piece that I’ve been preparing for at least two months about three quarters of the way through. I also made this sketch of a bird with a helmet….I’m wondering if he should be in a recognizable city or just a random city……..
Pulp 2.2
The Pulp show is coming up at Gallery 110. For anyone who doesn’t know the show will be on the 26th, all of the work in the show will be on paper, and will be priced at $110. I intend to have at least five pieces up in the show, including a couple pieces previously priced much higher than $110. You’ll have to come to see which pieces though. This is my first piece for the show: “Two Welds and a Chance of Showers.”
The Hive Gallery and other Updates
This coming Saturday, the fifth, I will have a piece up at the Hive Gallery in The May Group Show. I sent in “Cloud Cover” because the gallery director really seemed to like that piece. For those of you who haven’t seen it:
So, I just had a business card professionally printed for the first time. It came out pretty well. I am happy with it. Hopefully it helps. Let me know if you’d like one and I’ll send you one.
Meanwhile I’ve been at work in the studio a little bit more. I finished another piece in the Boob Tube series today. I think it is probably the best one to date. The birds really did it for me.
I also was working in the sketchbook today and came up with a couple things. Actually the one character is kind of old, but I like him, and I keep drawing him. Nothing wrong with a vampire bat/tv set.
The other is another bird with a stereo. Anyone who went to the Vashon Island show knows that that is one of my favorite subjects.
In other news, I just made a cd and sent it to Aardvark Art, a new company in Loveland , Colorado. They are going to be making some prints of a couple of my bird pieces and of “Cookie”, a personal favorite. I will keep you updated.
Slow and Easy Evening
I’ve been trying to rework my artist biography, statement, resume and all of that business stuff this evening. Unfortunately, I think it will end up being a much longer project than one night’s time will allow for, but, the exploration of surface will be coming out soon.
Here’s another bird drawing in the meanwhile.
St. Louis is Listening
So last night I was pouring through the racks in the thrift store and I found a couple oldies but goodies. Or as it were mid 90’s stuff that I was all about, and I’ve been sitting here with headphones on in my living room drawing stuff up. I’m really trying to get the travelling images out. People waiting for the bus, walking, biking, whatever. Here is a piece influenced by the weather my parents have been experiencing in new york though….
Funny what nice weather can do for the creative spark. Not to mention, I only have eight deliveries today so I can start painting at like two thirty instead of five. That is so very not ominous. Anywho, I hope everyone in my area is enjoying the weather and that the weather is awesome in other states too!

Waiting to go see “The Host”
I love cabbie hats. They get a bad rap because too many people think they are beatnicks and wear them backwards and try to wax poetic on you. But in the truest form of old man wearing a hat, I love cabbie hats.
So I was planning on taking a nap before I went to see a movie tonight, but I couldn’t fall asleep so I read a couple comics and then I started to doodle. God I love Batman. Anyway I’ve started(at least in my head) a series of people waiting for PT. Public transit that is, and I think it is going to be really cool. I actually haven’t really done paintings of people in a good ten months so it feels new and exciting. I will post some of the new stuff as it goes up. I think there is also going to be an entire show of men shaving…..
We’ll see.
Listening to Daydream Nation….
So I was listening to Sonic Youth tonight and finally started to get my groove back after those last two shows. Shows can really kill your creative spark for a little while afterward. I guess everybody needs a vacation, but tonight I was going off on these little birds in the pipes. This is part of a much larger sketch but I didn’t feel like scanning something in in parts tonight. Maybe sometime later.
